It has recently been brought to our attention that an individual posing as the People’s Postcode Lottery is writing to members of the public claiming they are winners of the ‘2010 World Cup Bid Lottery Award’.
The People’s Postcode Lottery is warning consumers that these letters are scams and should be destroyed immediately. The ‘2010 World Cup Bid Lottery Award’ does not exist. Please do not respond to these letters, and please do not provide any personal financial information.
Unfortunately lottery scams have been around for a number of years and the People’s Postcode Lottery are taking this matter very seriously. We have informed the police and the Office of Fair Trading and we are working together to ensure the issue is resolved quickly and efficiently.
People’s Postcode Lottery urges consumers to be vigilant by looking out for key warning signs* to be aware of if they receive a mailing or call telling them they have won any lottery:
1. You cannot win a lottery unless you have entered
2. Legitimate lotteries don't ask you to pay taxes, custom fees, insurance shipping or handling or any other fee before receiving your 'winnings'
3. You will often be asked to send money upfront to the perpetrators by money transfer.
4. Please note the following numbers are not registered with the People’s Postcode Lottery
Phone:01316080034
Mobile:07552439242
Fax: 01312020686
Anyone who suspects they may have received this scam letter please contact the Head of Communications at the People’s Postcode Lottery office in Edinburgh on 0131 554 8794 who will be happy to advise.
