From Glasgow With Love! – Winners attend Bond gala evening

007 November 2008

A glamorous James Bond gala evening held by Maggie’s to raise funds for their important work across Scotland generated £12,000 for the charity and two lucky couples attended the spectacle courtesy of the People’s Postcode Lottery.

People’s Postcode Lottery presenter Angus Purden joined our competition winners Ian Broun and Patricia Erskine at the VIP special preview. Amongst attendees were the Lord Provost Bob Winter, former First Minister Jack McConnell and footballer Christian Dailly, who is a patron of the charity.

Our winners were greeted with a champagne reception before becoming some of the first people in the UK to see the new James Bond film Quantum of Solace. Afterwards the evening finished in true Bond style with Martinis, accompanying an auction in which people generously raised even more for Maggie’s Cancer Centres.

For Patricia Erskine the evening was special in more ways than one. She was not only celebrating winning the tickets, but also her 43rd wedding anniversary with husband Gordon, who joined her at the event. “My husband and I really enjoyed ourselves. Thank you all for a memorable 43rd wedding anniversary,” said Patricia after the film.

Maggie’s community fundraising manager for Scotland, Mhairi MacCallum, said: "We always said that fundraising is fun but this takes it to a new level, as you can't get much better than glamorous outfits, fast cars, free champagne and the chance to see one of the year's most highly anticipated films before anyone else.

“It was a great evening with all the money spent on tickets, raffles and auction prizes going directly towards helping people affected by cancer.”

Maggie’s operates six permanent centres across Scotland, offering emotional and practical support for people with cancer, their friends and families. Thanks to the generosity of its players, the People’s Postcode Lottery has donated over £300,000, enough to run one of the centres for a year.
