SR8 4LB - Peterlee - 28 January 2010
Take a look at all of this week's prize winners:
Street Prize • Bonus Streets • Party Streets • Plenty Twenty
A Peterlee resident has received some good news for February, as an anonymous Postcode Lottery winner living in the postcode SR8 4LB this week found himself £30,000 the richer. The news came as Street Prize presenter Judie McCourt visited a
Children North East service to see how funding from the Postcode Lottery really benefits charities in the area.
Meeting Fundraising and PR Manager Catrina Flynn and centre staff at the West End Youth Enquiries Service, Judie was bowled over by the passion behind the project. The West End Youth Enquiries Service (WEYES) offers health related advice and support to young people aged 11 - 25 who live and work in the West End of Newcastle.
The service has been a widely used one since it opened in 1997, and offers drop in services including mental and sexual health clinics, workshops, careers guidance, housing support, ICT facilities, Basic Skills projects and Stop Smoking sessions to name a few!
The service also offers space for voluntary groups to meet clients and space is also provided for statutory organisations such as CAMHS, Newcastle District Adolescent Service and the Youth Offending Team.
Judie said of the service: “What really impressed me about WEYES was the sheer range of services on offer here- from help with CV’s and job applications to workshops and outreach work with schools and clubs, the project covers the whole West End of Newcastle and last year was in contact with over 3,500 people in the 11-25 age group. A substantial percentage of these contacts were from black and ethnic minority groups, asylum seekers and refugees.”
She continued: “It’s great to really see the benefit of playing the People’s Postcode Lottery firsthand- with 40p from every ticket going to great charities in England, it’s services like WEYES that really benefit from your support. Thank you!”
Children North East has received over £183,000 in unrestricted support from the Postcode Lottery to date. Look out for images and a video from Judie’s visit, which will be posted here soon!
