Breathing new life into the Yorkshire Dales
Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust has been working hard since 1997 to care for the Dales. They are a practical organisation doing work which supports the environment, and which also influences every other aspect of life in this special area.

When YMDT first started out we did lots of conservation work, like rebuilding village halls and buildings and restoring walls. These days the organisation's role is much broader and reaches further afield. They’re now helping to tackle issues as diverse as sustainable development, education and social exclusion.

Over the last 13 years YMDT have helped more than 700 individual projects, worth over £17 million. A lot of this work is still practical. The ongoing woodland creation scheme has seen YMDT plant over 800,000 trees. They work extensively with farmers across the Dales to restore natural heritage and habitat features, like hay meadows. A valuable part of this work also involves bringing disadvantaged groups from inner-city areas to experience and learn about the countryside.

YMDT is a "doing" organisation. Everything they achieve is thanks to the support of their partners and donors, including People's Postcode Lottery players.
