Shona Robison MSP visits Maggies Dundee Cancer Caring Centre

2nd February 2010

A sense of calm swept over Dundee today when Shona Robison, Minister for Public Health and Sport joined Annemiek Hoogenboom, Country Director for People’s Postcode Lottery, for a class of Tai Chi at Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centre.

As a charity partner of the People’s Postcode Lottery, Maggie’s have received over £950,000 - solely from ticket sales of the postcode based lottery. This fantastic amount is enough to fund a centre for 3 years and allows Maggie’s to continue their support free of charge, and helps towards the introduction of new holistic classes, such as Tai Chi.

Shona Robison MSP said “As Public Health and Sport Minister, I know how important exercise is to people’s wellbeing and it is great to see Maggie’s embracing that as part of their core programme. The release of tension through classes like these is really important to people affected by cancer”.

Maggie’s Dundee Centre Head Lesley Howells described the support as “ Astonishing – the ongoing and unrestricted support from the People’s Postcode Lottery is invaluable in helping Maggie’s Centres in Scotland to continue helping people build a life beyond cancer”.
