2010 Charity Gala - Postcode prizes at Parliament!

5th February 2010

February 3rd saw charities from across Scotland gather at a charity gala hosted by People’s Postcode Lottery held in the Scottish Parliament. The event gathered together charity representatives and MSP’s as the People’s Postcode Lottery awarded their charity partners with a cheque for £2,906,296 – the total amount raised for charities in Scotland in 2009 by the players of the People’s Postcode Lottery.

Patricia Ferguson MSP welcomed the guests to the garden lobby of the Scottish Parliament, where charity partners CHILDREN 1ST received a cheque for £496,769, Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centres were given £553,324, Missing People (in Scotland) received £380,173 and Scottish Wildlife Trust were presented with a cheque for £441,444. Newly-created charity People’s Postcode Trust were given £1,034,586, to allow the trust to continue funding charities and projects, in addition to the 142 it has already funded in Scotland. In total, the People’s Postcode Lottery has awarded over £4million to charities and community initiatives in Scotland, since its launch in January 2008.

Helping 142 charities and counting!

Country Director Annemiek Hoogenboom said: “It is truly fantastic that the People’s Postcode Lottery has been able to give these fantastic charities such high levels of funding. And it is all because of the players of the People’s Postcode Lottery. 40p from each ticket goes directly to charity, and because more and more people are getting involved with the People’s Postcode Lottery, we are able to keep increasing the amount of funding we can give to the charity partners.”

Representatives from six of the projects funded by the People’s Postcode Trust attended the event, allowing guests to see some of the projects that have been funded. “The creation of the People’s Postcode Trust has allowed 142 charities and community initiatives in Scotland to proceed with innovative ventures, many of which are beneficial to our environment – an aspect we are particularly keen on providing funding for,” Annemiek added.

This amazing figure - almost £3million - given to charities this year wouldn't have been possible without all of the players of the People's Postcode Lottery. If you want to be a part of further fundraising success in 2010, subscribe today!
