New role for former park chief

Clapham based charity Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust (YDMT) have appointed former National Park chief Steve Macaré as their new chairman.
Steve Macaré, who was chairman of the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority from 1999 to 2004, will take the reins from previous YDMT chairman Peter Charlesworth.
Steve says: “I am delighted to have the opportunity to continue my involvement in the Yorkshire Dales and look forward to building on the excellent job done by Peter.”
In his 9 years as a Trustee for YDMT Steve has seen the charity make some significant improvements to the environment and communities of the Dales. With big plans for 2010 some of the Trusts work will include: hay meadow restoration, natural woodland planting, young apprenticeship schemes, parish caretakers and People and the DALES which promotes access to the countryside for all. The Trust also continues to manage several grants programmes on behalf of other organisations, dealing with hundreds of rural development projects and community initiatives throughout the Dales and beyond.
Book launch for YDMT
2010 will also see the launch of YDMT’s new book ‘Hay Time in the Yorkshire Dales’, hundreds of Flowers of the Dales Festival events as well as plans by the charity to plant their millionth tree in the Dales.
Speaking about the future of the Trust Steve said: “What makes the Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust so successful is the support we receive from people everywhere who share our love of the Dales and want to keep this special place alive. Of course we rely on donations to make our work possible, so I would like to thank all of our supporters and urge everyone to keep giving.”
To date YDMT has received over £67,000 in unrestricted funding from the People’s Postcode Lottery to date. This total will rise throughout 2010 and to help, suscribe today and be in with a chance of winning the £30,000 weekly Street Prize!
