Ambassador for Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust
Lesley Garrett, CBE, is Britain’s most popular soprano, regularly appearing in both opera and in concert, on television and CD.
“I was born and brought up in South Yorkshire and have vivid memories of childhood camping holidays in the Yorkshire Dales. Even though it was often raining, compared with the pit-tips of Doncaster the Dales were paradise.
"More recently I was reaquainted with my favourite Dale, Swaledale, when I took part in ITV's "My Favourite View". I fell in love with the Dales all over again and this prompted me to take my children on a "bouldering trip" to Calderdale - they can't wait to go back!
"Seeing the Dales through my children's eyes has made me realise how vital it is for all children to be inspired by this beautiful part of the world. I am proud to have been asked to become a Patron of the Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust, who are dedicated to enabling children without the means to visit this stunning part of our country."
